Abstract

Nissan Europe SAS (NESAS) operates in the automotive after-sales market, where selling accessories across Europe requires WVTA (type approval). The current approval process is paper-based and shared manually among departments in France, the UK, Japan and Switzerland, resulting in poor visibility, fragmented data sharing and a risk of errors that can halt sales across Europe. This thesis examines how to reengineer and automate this cross-divisional, transnational paper data flow using an IT solution built on existing corporate resources. The work was conducted as a Business Process Reengineering project in four phases (Analysis, Redesign, Implementation and Evaluation), applying techniques such as workflow, stakeholder and value-added analyses, the design of performance measures and internal process simulation, followed by a pilot and roll-out. The outcome is a redesigned process and an electronic application that supports type approval across units and meets management’s key concerns about reliability and compatibility. The thesis sets out the steps and key factors for automating cross-divisional paper processes and outlines the framework for subsequent evaluation and continuous improvement.
