Abstract
This thesis redesigns and evaluates a Smart calendar by revisiting and refining design ideas from a prior project (Dimov, 2013). Ideas with weak performance were excluded, while three core areas—different event types, travel time estimations, and semi-automatic scheduling—were implemented in a functional Android prototype (Java/XML, Eclipse ADT). To examine the value of the improved ideas and whether users’ mental models align with the new features, a between-group study with eight students was conducted, using task-based evaluations and interviews guided by Benyon (2010) and Lazar & Feng (2010). The results are compared to the previous semester’s evaluation, and the thesis discusses design implications and suggests further improvements.
