Abstract

This thesis investigates how real-time LiDAR-driven concert visuals influence audience flow (enjoyment and immersion) in a live setting. The project was realized by planning, designing, and staging a concert with the band Lady at Basement Copenhagen, creating song-specific visuals and lighting in which half of the pieces used LiDAR and half employed other techniques. During development, the authors conducted semi-structured interviews with leading Danish VJs to contextualize current live-visuals practice and inform the creative and technical setup. The visuals were tested with an audience, and feedback indicated that they contributed to supporting a flow state. The findings are preliminary and suggest promising potential for LiDAR technology in real-time live concerts, while underscoring the need for further research and testing to confirm effects and clarify measurement approaches.
