Abstract

Denne afhandling undersøger, hvorfor tyske yogapraktiserende vælger at rejse for yoga, og hvilke behov og forventninger der former deres valg, med særlig relevans for destinationer som Danmark, hvor der mangler data om udenlandske yogaturister. Undersøgelsen er forankret i en konstruktivistisk, kvalitativ tilgang og gennemføres i to trin: først en litteraturgennemgang suppleret med et ekspertinterview, dernæst 10 individuelle, semistrukturerede interviews med tyske yogapraktiserende over 40 år. Et matrixredskab blev anvendt til at systematisere centrale pointer i datamaterialet. Resultaterne viser, at ingen af interviewpersonerne havde besøgt Danmark specifikt for yoga, men at deres vigtigste behov ved yogarejser er afslapning og flugt fra en stresset hverdag, socialt samvær med ligesindede samt ønsket om at tilegne sig ny viden, hvilket placerer dem tæt på uddannelsespræget turisme. This thesis explores why German yoga practitioners choose to travel for yoga and which needs and expectations shape their decisions, with relevance for destinations such as Denmark where data on incoming yoga tourists are lacking. The study adopts a constructivist, qualitative design executed in two stages: a literature review combined with an expert interview, followed by 10 individual, in-depth semi-structured interviews with German yoga practitioners over 40 years of age. A matrix was used to organize key points from the interviews. Findings indicate that none of the participants had visited Denmark for yoga, but their core needs on yoga trips include relaxation and escape from everyday stress, connecting with like-minded people, and acquiring new knowledge—positioning them near educational tourism. The most influential motivations were the yoga course content, price, and facilities; next, nature, teacher, and food; and finally, practical considerations such as accessibility and distance from home. These insights can support providers and destinations in tailoring offerings that better meet the needs and expectations of German yoga travelers.
