Abstract
This study explores how physical education in a secondary school can promote joy of movement among adolescents. In collaboration with Højene Skole in Hjørring, the research investigates which aspects of physical education contribute to students in 8. grade experiencing joy of movement. The study builds on theoretical perspectives from Jensen (2020) and Ingulfsvann et al. (2022), who conceptualize joy of movement through multiple dimensions. Based on these dimensions, an analyt- ical tool was developed to identify signs of joy of movement. Using qualitative methods, including group interviews and observation of eighth-grade students, this study analyzes how these theoretical dimensions can be observed in practice. The analytical tool was iteratively developed through the empirical work and serves to identify moments where students show signs of joy related to movement. The study contributes to a deeper understanding of how physical education can be designed to support long-term movement joy and offers a concrete framework for educators and researchers to identify and foster meaningful physical activity experiences.
