Abstract

Dette speciale undersøger, hvordan en virtuel agents ansigtsudtryk påvirker brugeroplevelsen, altså de følelser og reaktioner, mennesker har, når de interagerer med computeranimerede figurer. Vi skabte to korte videoer af en virtuel agent, der udtrykker glæde: én med et standardudtryk baseret på den udbredte model med seks grundfølelser og én med en overdrevet, 'Disney-agtig' version. Det glade udtryk blev designet med fokus på træk i den nedre del af ansigtet (omkring munden). I alt 31 personer så og sammenlignede de to versioner og beskrev deres reaktioner. De fleste deltagere genkendte den tilsigtede følelse af glæde, men mange fandt ikke udtrykket effektivt eller overbevisende. Resultaterne antyder, at en virtuel figurs ansigtsudtryk og muligvis også kropssprog kan påvirke, hvordan folk oplever og vurderer interaktionen.

This thesis explores how a virtual agent’s facial expressions influence user experience, meaning the feelings and reactions people have when interacting with computer-generated characters. We created two short videos of a virtual agent expressing happiness: one with a standard expression based on the widely used set of six basic emotions, and one with an exaggerated, 'Disney-like' version. The happy expression was designed using features in the lower face (around the mouth). Thirty-one participants watched and compared the two versions and reported their reactions. Most participants correctly recognized the intended happy emotion, but many did not find the expression effective or convincing. The results suggest that a virtual character’s facial expression, and possibly its body language, can influence how people experience and evaluate the interaction.
