Abstract

This thesis examines how planning within the Letbanesamarbejdet (light rail collaboration) can balance regional cohesion, local mobility justice (fair access to transport), and realistic conditions for implementation in the Randers–Aarhus corridor. Building on the new mobility paradigm and accessibility-oriented planning (how easily people reach everyday destinations), it develops a practical framework that considers three dimensions of accessibility: 1) institutional and strategic, 2) physical and spatial, and 3) social and experiential. Using a mixed-methods case study—combining literature review, document analysis, interviews, observations, survey data, and GIS-based mapping (geographic information systems)—the thesis analyzes both corridor-level issues and local mobility needs at the city level. The findings show that the corridor cannot be served by a single, uniform public transport solution. Instead, it should be planned as a differentiated mobility system that balances regional speed, local access, and implementation realism. The thesis provides an accessibility-focused, iterative planning foundation to inform further discussion of how high-quality public transport, mobility hubs, and alternative mobility solutions can support the ongoing work on the Randers–Aarhus corridor.
