Abstract

This diploma thesis investigates physical-layer behavior in 3GPP LTE by performing throughput measurements on a deployed network to assess how attenuation and intermodulation distortion affect nearby user equipment (UE). Two live measurement setups were used: (1) progressively attenuating the downlink signal with attenuators and (2) combining the UE’s received signal with a controlled noise signal from an SMIQ 06b Vector Signal Generator to emulate interference. Analysis of throughput and related KPIs shows a clear negative impact on UE performance at elevated noise and interference levels. However, the dataset is limited, and additional measurements are needed to generalize the findings; the thesis outlines proposals for future investigations.

Denne diplomrapport undersøger fysiske lag-målinger i 3GPP LTE ved at udføre throughputmålinger i et udrullet netværk for at vurdere, hvordan dæmpning og intermodulationsforvrængning påvirker andre brugerudstyr (UE) i nærheden. To live måleopstillinger blev anvendt: 1) gradvis dæmpning af downlink-signalet med attenuatorer og 2) kombination af det modtagne UE-signal med et kontrolleret støjsignal fra en SMIQ 06b Vector Signal Generator for at efterligne forstyrrelser. Gennem analyse af throughput og relaterede KPI’er ses en tydelig negativ effekt på UE’ets ydeevne ved forhøjede støj- og interferensniveauer. Datagrundlaget er dog begrænset, og yderligere målinger er nødvendige for at generalisere resultaterne; rapporten skitserer forslag til fremtidige undersøgelser.
