Abstract
This thesis examines how a company can motivate customers to communicate through a shared information system rather than traditional channels, using a case with the design firm Ideaal and the collaboration platform Podio. Guided by a Gadamerian hermeneutic approach, it synthesizes theory from information architecture, persuasive technology, and pervasiveness. Building from categorization into the first three IA systems (organization, labeling, and navigation; search is excluded), the work integrates key concepts from persuasion and pervasiveness to reveal overlaps and mutual reinforcement. Based on this theoretical synthesis, the thesis analyzes Podio’s strengths and weaknesses for onboarding and everyday use, and proposes a revised information architecture presented as mock-ups (implementation was not possible due to platform constraints). It concludes that successful user adoption requires combining all three domains: persuasive techniques applied at the micro level can scale into pervasive patterns across the system, with implications for the overall design of the information architecture.
