Abstract
In this study, the focus is on work and sustenance for women affected by violence who leave a women's crisis centre. The background for the study stems from a curiosity about the interventions made for women at crisis centres, which focus on getting women out of violent relationships and providing them with a new home in their housing. However, there is no structured effort for sustenance, neither in the form of employment, which can be part-time with support measures, nor in the form of permanent public support. The study is based on interviews with employees and some residents at crisis centres, municipal employees, and volunteers working on network formation through NGOs. These interviews are compared with literature on violence, Danish and international studies on violence and work, as well as Danish and international literature on crisis centres. The study is based on the conditions at crisis centres and the ongoing interventions there. The focus is on work and other sustenance opportunities for women, which is why the work of the crisis centres is assessed in terms of cooperation on employment with municipalities. The Danish studies are compared with international studies on the employment of women affected by partnerviolence. Previous research studies on work as a remedial measure concerning violence are described. Measures in workplaces to support women affected by violence through collegial networks and managerial support, so that the women can remain employed, are also described. There is also a comparison with the international literature on the work of women's crisis centres. The entire study focuses on comprehensive solutions where problems with violence, housing, networking, and employment are addressed.
