Abstract
Denne afhandling undersøger, hvad intuition er, hvilken rolle intuitive tanker spiller for menneskelig erkendelse, og hvorfor intuition nogle gange virker irrationel eller vildledende. Udgangspunktet er tre spørgsmål: afklaring af begrebet intuition, dets erkendelsesværdi og en forklaring af intuitionens irrationelle aspekt. Studien anvender en multidisciplinær, integrativ tilgang. En litteraturgennemgang danner grundlag for en begrebsanalyse, som giver en historisk, teoretisk og videnskabelig forståelse af intuition. Analysen inddrager centrale psykologiske retninger (personligheds-, udviklings-, kognitions-, social-, evolutions- og biologisk psykologi) samt et zenbuddhistisk perspektiv. På dette grundlag fremsættes en samlet teori om intuition – den universelle intuitionsproces – hvor intuition forstås som en psykologisk betinget genkaldelsesproces, der hurtigt samler relevant information, så personen kan opnå en umiddelbar indsigt i helheden af en objektrelateret eller mellemmenneskelig situation. Processen foregår på forskellige niveauer og betragtes som forbindelsen mellem det følelsesmæssige og det rationelle. For at afprøve begrebsanalysen og teorien gennemføres kvalitative interviews med seks deltagere. Resultaterne tyder på, at intuition organiserer vurderinger ud fra tidligere erfaringer, og at begrænset viden om, hvordan intuition fungerer, sammen med fysiske og psykiske tilstande, ofte kan gøre den vildledende. Afslutningsvis foreslås et systematisk review som næste skridt for at identificere en egnet metode til videre undersøgelse af teorien om den universelle intuition.
This thesis examines what intuition is, the role intuitive thoughts play in human understanding, and why intuition can appear irrational or misleading. It focuses on three issues: clarifying the concept of intuition, its cognitive value, and explaining its irrational aspect. The study uses a multidisciplinary, integrative approach. A literature review supports a concept analysis that builds a historical, theoretical, and scientific understanding of intuition, drawing on major branches of psychology (personality, developmental, cognitive, social, evolutionary, and biological) and a Zen Buddhist perspective. Based on this analysis, the thesis proposes a unified theory—the universal process of intuition—in which intuition is defined as a psychologically conditioned recall process that rapidly integrates information, giving a person immediate insight into the whole of an object-related or interpersonal situation. This process operates across different levels and is seen as a link between emotional and rational processing. To probe the analysis and theory, qualitative interviews with six participants were conducted. The results suggest that intuition organizes judgments according to prior experience, and that limited knowledge about how intuition functions, along with physical and mental states, can often make it misleading. Finally, the thesis proposes a systematic review as future work to identify suitable methods for further testing the universal intuition theory.
