Abstract

This thesis presents the design of a new Museum Jorn on the lakefront in Silkeborg, Denmark. The aim is to create a unifying landmark that frames artworks by Asger Jorn, Per Kirkeby, and others, while bridging the separation between the city center and the idyllic lakeside setting. The design is guided by principles of circulation (how visitors move through the building), light, atmosphere, and flexibility, enabling the museum to adapt to changing exhibitions and trends. These ideas are supported by analyses of the site, materials, and daylight, and by simulations in LCA-byg and Climate Studio to uphold architectural quality. Hand calculations of ventilation airflows and duct dimensions inform a conceptual ventilation strategy. The final design is presented with attention to spatial experience, integrated design solutions, and thermal comfort, and concludes with a summary and reflection.
