Abstract

This thesis examines how to build a multi-stakeholder partnership between business, NGOs, and academia to advance the Sustainable Development Goals, with a specific focus on SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 5 (Gender Equality) by encouraging girls in elementary school to pursue STEM education. The work stems from collaboration with Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy, the SDSN Youth Global Schools Program, and Aalborg University, where the author held roles across all three. Drawing on literature on multi-stakeholder partnerships, collective impact, and systems approaches, the thesis develops a Multi-Stakeholders Partnership Lifecycle (MSPL) model and applies it as an analytical framework to review three case studies (SGRE, SDSN Youth, and AAU) and their internal and external practices for designing and implementing sustainability interventions. The analysis identifies 11 best practices, highlighting five as particularly critical: using PBL and megaproject models, digital collaboration tools, inclusion of youth as core contributors, a coordinating “backbone organization,” and the design thinking methodology. The thesis culminates in a strategic plan that integrates the MSPL model and these five practices to establish a concrete partnership among the three organizations, and suggests the framework’s adaptability to other levels of collaboration and to both short- and long-term SDG challenges.
