Abstract
Against the backdrop of the 'new mobilities turn'—a research perspective that examines everyday movement across transport modes—and the push to build mobility hubs in North Jutland and across Denmark, this thesis explores how people experience wayfinding and waiting as part of an intermodal transfer at Aalborg Mobility Hub, seeking to understand the hub as 'more than a station'. Using a 'critical points of contact' framework, the study focuses on key moments and places where travelers interact with signs, spaces, and services. It follows two routes to examine wayfinding (how people locate and follow directions) and wayfaring (how they move through the place), as well as individually experienced waiting time. A mixed-methods design combined eye-tracking (recording where participants look) with structured interviews. The findings indicate that passengers tend to have a neutral view of the hub and its facilities, neither strongly positive nor negative. The thesis ends with a small set of improvement suggestions and reflections on how mobility hubs can support more sustainable urban mobility. These insights are relevant to stakeholders such as Aalborg Municipality, Nordjyllands Trafikselskab, Danske Statsbaner, Nordjyske Jernbaner, and Kennedy Arcade, and may inform development of other hubs in and beyond Denmark.
