Abstract
This Master’s Thesis deals with the design of a modern, multifunctional mosque situated in the capital of Denmark, Copenhagen. The building embraces a broad palette of users, balancing the needs of Danish Muslims with the needs of the local community. Through its physical appearance and functionality the building aims to integrate Islam as an active part of the cityscape as well as creating mutual understanding between the segments despite of differences. The thesis itself is based social sustainability putting emphasis on that architecture can shape behavior as well as being a part of solving contemporary, societal issues. The result is a multifunctional building which acts as the catalyst for the gathering of cultures and religions in Denmark under the same roof.
