Abstract

This thesis models, analyzes, and designs a high-power offshore wind power converter based on a three-level neutral-point-clamped (3L-NPC) voltage source converter. Motivated by the need for reliable and efficient grid integration, it formulates the problem of converting large wind power to grid-compliant electricity and focuses on grid-connected control strategies. The work surveys relevant state of the art, including grid codes, offshore wind turbine architecture and generator options (DFIG and PMSG), modulation methods (SPWM and SVPWM), coordinate transformations, and maximum power point tracking (MPPT) for wind. A system architecture is specified, and the grid-side converter and its control are designed for grid connection and power/current regulation. A hardware platform is prepared, and the design is evaluated through simulation and hardware-in-the-loop verification. Detailed performance figures and experimental results are not included in the provided excerpt.
