Abstract
This Master’s thesis investigates whether mobile persuasive technology—apps designed to nudge and motivate users—can encourage pro-environmental behavior. The study designed, built, and deployed two mobile applications focused on water conservation and power consumption. Ten households in Denmark and Australia used these apps. From these deployments, several recurring themes were identified and discussed. The thesis concludes by synthesizing the two projects and presenting eight practical guidelines for designing mobile persuasive technology that supports environmentally friendly habits.
