Abstract
This thesis argues that Netflix serves as a channel that delivers reality shows promoting materialism and conspicuous consumption (buying or displaying goods to signal status) to its subscribers. Given the platform’s global reach and its growing slate of original films and reality series, Netflix provides a useful case for examining streaming content discursively—that is, as part of broader public conversations. The thesis situates Netflix and its reality programming within wider debates about media and consumer culture and asks how these narratives circulate and shape discussion.
