Abstract

This project addresses the shortage of housing for hospital staff in Masanga, Sierra Leone. In collaboration with the Danish branch of Architects Without Borders, it develops a prototype for staff housing and a master plan for the site. Because the budget is limited, the focus is on simple, low-tech solutions that use material technology, natural ventilation, daylight, and passive strategies for cooling and heating. The design is guided by the warm, humid climate. Fieldwork in Masanga provides the basis for the project, including studies of social and cultural conditions, the terrain, and detailed site documentation to ensure the housing fits the local context.
