Abstract

This thesis presents a design proposal for a maritime science centre on Norway’s west coast near Stavanger. The aim is to attract new talent to the maritime sector, which has long been overshadowed by the oil industry. To achieve this, the proposal expands the traditional idea of a science centre. Instead of offering exhibitions alone, the centre combines exhibitions with active research and education, creating an integrated platform for knowledge and learning. The design reinforces this goal through the building’s placement on the site and its relationship with the surrounding landscape. The approach is New Nordic, emphasizing a strong connection to place and local identity.
