Abstract
I nutidens musik optræder mange med digitale instrumenter. Her er højttaleren ikke kun til at gøre lyden højere; den er en del af instrumentet og former, hvordan musikken skabes og opleves. Da spillesteder bruger forskellige højttalersystemer, oplever musikere ofte, at musikken lyder anderledes på scenen end i studiet. Dette projekt undersøger den forskel i live elektronisk musik og foreslår, at musikere behandler højttalerens klang som kompositorisk materiale. På den måde kan de bedre styre og reagere på det, publikum faktisk hører. In today’s music, many artists perform with digital instruments. In this context, the loudspeaker is not just for amplification; it is part of the instrument and shapes how music is made and heard. Because venues use different loudspeaker systems, musicians often find their music sounds different on stage than in the studio. This study examines that gap in live electronic music and argues that musicians should treat the loudspeaker’s sound as material for composition. By doing so, they can better control and respond to what audiences actually hear. The research explores how contemporary musicians create and sculpt sound through loudspeakers, and how the interaction between sound‑producing devices and loudspeaker systems helps define “liveness” in performance—the sense that music is happening in the moment. Drawing on the French tradition of acousmatic music, where loudspeakers are “staged” as part of the performance, the project investigates current practices that actively “play” the loudspeaker. The goal is to identify new patterns and methods for integrating the loudspeaker as a creative, mediating element in live electronic music.
