Abstract
This thesis explores how strategic planning can foster positive development and enhance quality of life in small villages amid ongoing urbanization and centralization. Adopting a positive, assets-based approach, it synthesizes international and national insights on rural development, clarifies the concept of livability, and formulates a strategic framework with criteria for viable villages. The framework draws on literature and best-practice cases (including LEADER and Realdania) and is tested in Voldum (including Nielstrup and Bramstrup) through contextual analysis, focus group interviews, mapping of local assets, and the creation of a potential map and conceptual design proposals.
