Abstract
Denne afhandling undersøger, om store offentlige begivenheder kan styrkes gennem bydesign. Udgangspunktet er en samtidskontekst, hvor globalisering og mangfoldighed udfordrer fællesskabsfølelsen, mens byens offentlige rum og kulturelle tilbud får en stadig større rolle. Arbejdet kombinerer tre teoretiske spor—kulturens historiske og politiske betydning, det offentlige domæne og midlertidighed som katalysator—med to kontrasterende casestudier: karnevalet i Rio de Janeiro og Olavsfestdagene i Trondheim. Caserne belyser temaer som program og afgrænsning, adgang og infrastruktur før og under begivenheder, brugergrupper, mobilitet og social rammesætning; der indgår også spørgeskemaer. This thesis examines whether large public gatherings can be enhanced through urban design.
