Abstract
This thesis examines customers’ perceptions of La Locanda, an independent Italian restaurant in Aalborg that received the “årets spot” (place of the year) award from Den Danske Spiseguide in November 2016. It investigates how guests experience the restaurant’s food, wine, and service, whether the award influences their choice of restaurant, and whether they agree with the guide’s criteria for granting the prize. The study employs a qualitative case study using self-administered, hand-delivered questionnaires distributed to La Locanda’s guests. The questionnaire had two parts: one focused on the customer experience and one on awareness of and attitudes toward Den Danske Spiseguide; participants could also add open comments. Findings suggest the award played a limited role in shaping customers’ choices compared to other factors. Word-of-mouth recommendations from family and friends were the primary source of awareness. Overall, the study highlights that guest satisfaction is the most meaningful recognition for La Locanda.
