Denne afhandling undersøger, hvordan udvikling af bæredygtig turisme kan bidrage til Haitis genopbygning efter jordskælvet i 2010 ved at foreslå et besøgscenter ved National History Park (La Citadelle) suppleret med overnatningsfaciliteter for både internationale og lokale gæster. Projektet har til formål at formidle haitisk historie og moderne kunst og samtidig tilbyde en stærk oplevelse af landskabet; gennem form og materialer søger arkitekturen at fremhæve og referere til den lokale natur og kultur. Arbejdet er gennemført som en integreret designproces med faserne analyse, skitsering, syntese og præsentation, hvor æstetiske, funktionelle og tekniske parametre vægtes i sammenhæng og underbygges af empirisk kontekst- og brugerindsigt. This thesis examines how sustainable tourism can support Haiti’s post-2010 earthquake recovery by proposing a visitor center at the National History Park (La Citadelle), complemented by accommodation for both international and domestic guests. The project aims to present Haitian history and modern art while offering an immersive experience of the surrounding landscape; through its form and materials, the architecture seeks to reveal and reference local nature and culture. The work follows an Integrated Design Process with analysis, sketching, synthesis, and presentation phases, integrating aesthetic, functional, and technical parameters informed by empirical context and user insights. The analytical scope addresses sustainability in a Haitian context, hot–humid climate conditions, earthquake- and hurricane-resilient construction, vernacular architecture, and material choices. The outcome is a site-specific proposal for a visitor center and small lodging facility that aspires to be robust and accessible.
