Abstract

This thesis investigates how information and communication technology (ICT) can facilitate school-home communication and collaboration by centering parents’ experiences with Aula, the national platform introduced in Danish public schools from 2019. Motivated by criticism of information overload, navigation difficulties and app instability, we ask: How can Aula be improved to better support school-home communication and collaboration with parents as users? We combine a literature review with qualitative research with parents (contextual inquiry and semi-structured interviews) to elicit needs, expectations and pain points. Using a design thinking process, we translate insights into system requirements, generate concepts, and build wireframes, mock-ups and a prototype, which are explored through scenarios and usability testing. The work aims to produce user-centered design proposals that reflect parents’ needs and improve the clarity, efficiency and overall experience of school-home communication through ICT.
