Abstract

This paper examines how complex interdependence theory is reflected in the Danish strategic partnerships. As a case study, this thesis can be viewed as a contribution to the existing scholarly debate on the effectiveness of the constellation of the strategic partnership. A debate which has been centered around a confusion of the term, whether or not strategic partnerships are more than political rhetoric or if the new way of conducting foreign policy might have some substance. Our analysis has shown that many of the characteristics of complex interdependence theory are present in the partnerships, making the theory ideal for further analysis of the concept. Through document analysis of the joint statements and work plans of the Danish strategic partnerships, we sought to contribute to the ongoing debate via complex interdependence theory.
