Abstract
This thesis examines how Video Podcast is integrated into e-learning at the University College of Northern Denmark (UCN), focusing on the Energy Management top-up program within the Energi & Miljø department. Video Podcast is defined here as animated recordings of teachers’ PowerPoint presentations with voice-over, made available to students through UCN’s Canvas learning platform. Using a techno-anthropological approach and Activity Theory, the study explores how video podcasts mediate teaching and learning practices and what tensions and challenges can arise when new technology is introduced. The empirical basis includes participant observation, interviews with teachers and students, and participation and observation in Canvas. The analysis applies the Activity System Model and the Activity Checklist to map relations among goals, rules, community, division of labor, and the tools involved, including Canvas, SmartBoard, eBeam, Office Mix, and Adobe Connect. The report addresses themes such as flexibility in e-learning, potential lack of interaction, the transformative nature of technology, and changing practices. As this summary is based on the report’s initial sections, definitive findings are not presented here; instead, it outlines the study’s aims, context, methods, and analytical framework, as well as its contribution to understanding and supporting the organizational integration of Video Podcast in e-learning.
