Abstract
At vurdere, om digitale informationssystemer (IS) i sundhedsvæsenet er succesfulde, er vigtigt for at efterprøve påstande om bedre kvalitet, styrkede patienter og færre medicinske fejl. DeLone & McLean’s IS Success Model (2003) er en udbredt ramme, der definerer kategorier til at måle IS-succes, den afhængige variabel (det udfald, der vurderes). Evaluating the success of digital information systems (IS) in healthcare is essential to verify claims about better care quality, patient empowerment, and fewer medical errors. The DeLone & McLean IS Success Model (2003) is a widely used framework that defines categories for measuring IS success, the dependent variable (the outcome being assessed). We examined whether this model still fits today’s healthcare and whether its categories should be adjusted to health informatics. Method: Guided by five research questions, we performed a quantitative content analysis of scientific papers published in 2003–2010. We compared the model’s categories with expert recommendations for IS success in healthcare and with the categories used in evaluation studies. Differences were tested with chi-square. Results: The categories in the DeLone & McLean model were significantly different from expert recommendations. Based on the lack of agreement, we composed a Health Information System (HIS) Success Model. The HIS model’s categories did not differ significantly from expert recommendations and aligned better with categories used in evaluations. Discussion: Healthcare is complex, involves many stakeholders, and definitions of success vary across organizations and over time. Technological and organizational changes since 2003 may have altered the criteria for evaluating success. Conclusion: The DeLone & McLean model’s categories do not have validity in today’s healthcare. Adjusting the categories to health informatics is appropriate. Our proposed HIS Success Model shows greater validity under current health informatics conditions.
