Abstract
This thesis investigates how Information Architecture (IA) and Persuasive Design (PD) can be combined in the design of interactive systems, and what each field contributes at different stages of the process. Using the redesign of the Persuasive Technologies community’s conference platform as a case, the work progressed through research, strategy and design. The research mapped both the IA and persuasion contexts, inventoried and evaluated prior conference websites, analyzed content and users, and examined users’ viewpoints, behaviors and motivations to participate in the community. Methods included heuristic evaluation, benchmarking, a mixed-methods survey, card sorting and semi-structured interviews, complemented by the Persuasive Systems Design (PSD) model to identify opportune moments for persuasion. The strategy distilled design requirements and priorities for an information environment spanning organization, labeling, navigation and search, and outlined which information is most valuable at different times of the year. The practical outcome is a high-fidelity, mobile-friendly prototype implemented as a Progressive Web App that integrates a solid IA structure with a persuasive layer. Applying persuasive principles at identified opportune moments was used to enhance interactivity and support sustained user engagement. The work demonstrates, through a concrete design process and prototype, the mutual benefits whereby IA provides structure, findability and comprehension, while PD contributes timing and techniques that make content more appealing and can keep users engaged.
Denne afhandling undersøger, hvordan Informationsarkitektur (IA) og Persuasivt design (PD) kan kombineres i designet af interaktive systemer, og hvad hvert felt bidrager med i forskellige faser af processen. Med redesignet af Persuasive Technologies-fællesskabets konferenceplatform som case forløb arbejdet gennem forskning, strategi og design. Forskningen kortlagde både IA- og persuasionskonteksten, opgjorde og evaluerede tidligere konferencewebsites, analyserede indhold og brugere og undersøgte brugernes synspunkter, adfærd og motivation for at deltage i fællesskabet.
