Abstract

In cities where few people cycle, including Barcelona, men ride more often than women. Research suggests that the quality of cycling infrastructure and how separated it is from motor traffic and pedestrians can affect this gender gap. This study examines whether different types of cycling infrastructure in Barcelona show different gender gaps and seeks to identify which infrastructure characteristics may influence whether women and men choose to cycle.
