Abstract
This paper discusses the role of urban furniture in the shaping of a city. It investigates concepts such as identity and image of a city while investigating the case of Aalborg and the recreation project it is undergoing in the harbour area. after performing an analysis of some basic urban, industrial design and visual communication theories, the project proposes the implementation of a strategy to be followed by the municipality that enables and empowers residents to work along with the municipality in co-designing their own environment. It is imperative for designers to work alongside users, especially when creating objects to be placed in public view.
