Abstract

The project explores the relationship between people and nature, and between the man-made and the natural. It brings the mood and character of the rugged lava landscape into the hotel’s interior by using daylight as a key design tool. In this way, the boundary between inside and outside is softened, strengthening the connection to the place. The building’s expression is conceived as land art, an artwork integrated into the landscape that responds to the harsh lava terrain.
