Abstract

This thesis explores what helps digital platform business models succeed and scale internationally. Digital platform business models are ways of doing business built around online platforms that connect users and services. The study combines multiple data sources (triangulation) and an extensive review of existing research to understand how this topic has developed as a research field. Insights from the literature review are applied to the question: “How do Digital Platform Business Models manage to succeed and grow to become international businesses? The case of VisuTask Aps and Oscars Biludlejning Aps.” Based on this, the thesis analyzes how such models succeed and proposes a conceptual framework that identifies key parameters of success.

Specialet undersøger, hvad der gør digitale platform-forretningsmodeller succesfulde og i stand til at vokse internationalt. Digitale platform-forretningsmodeller er forretningsmåder baseret på online platforme, der forbinder brugere og tjenester. Studiet kombinerer flere datakilder (triangulering) og en omfattende gennemgang af eksisterende forskning for at forstå, hvordan området er blevet etableret som forskningsfelt. Indsigterne fra litteraturgennemgangen anvendes til at besvare spørgsmålet: “How do Digital Platform Business Models manage to succeed and grow to become international businesses? The case of VisuTask Aps and Oscars Biludlejning Aps.” På den baggrund analyserer specialet, hvordan sådanne modeller lykkes, og udvikler en konceptuel ramme, der peger på centrale succesparametre.
