Abstract

This bachelor thesis explores how professionals experience working with Open Dialogues in Network meetings (ODIN) within psychiatric social work for people with co-occurring substance use and mental health problems (ROP). It examines three core questions: whether ODIN promotes user involvement, supports the development of close and supportive relationships, and contributes to quality communication in network meetings among service users, relatives, and professionals in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Data were gathered through qualitative interviews with professionals and analyzed within a hermeneutic phenomenological framework, drawing on the Open Dialogue approach and on theories of recognition (Honneth) and systems (Luhmann). The study situates ODIN within a contextual model of mental health as an alternative or complement to the traditional medical model. Based on the collected data and theoretical framing, the thesis concludes that ODIN offers advantages in strengthening user involvement, fostering supportive relationships, and improving communication in network meetings, while also reflecting on methodological limitations and the influence of the researcher’s preunderstanding.
