Abstract

This study examines the landscape of waste heat utilization in Denmark, focusing on the regulatory challenges and opportunities for integration into district heating systems. Despite positive encouragement from EU directives and Danish policies, the absence of robust legislative backing poses challenges. The newly implemented price cap legislation, effective since 2022, has faced criticism as a potential hindrance. Location emerges as a critical factor, with energy-intensive industries often poorly situated for waste heat integration. The conclusion emphasizes the need for more stringent regulatory measures, including strategic industry placement and integration into environmental protection legislation, to fully realize the potential of waste heat utilization
