Abstract
This techno-anthropology thesis draws on ethnographic research to explore how people in Lemvig and Thyborøn create a sense of 'we' and how that shapes their responses to change. It approaches adaptation through the lenses of sub-politics (everyday, small-scale political actions outside formal institutions), responsibility and trust. The study finds that residents position themselves in multiple, overlapping social formations by 'we-ing'—using 'we' to include, connect or draw boundaries. These formations can stretch across places and times and are linked to local landscapes that shape life. Many sub-political aspects are seen as part of how climate change is discussed. To cope with change, these formations must be continually reproduced, and people place trust in political involvement and changes in practice, locally and globally, to influence the course of change.
