Abstract
The EU introduced new rules on waste management that Danish hospitals must follow. A pilot project tried to apply the same standard solution across all hospitals, but this did not work because of differences in infrastructure. This project analyzed current problems with waste generation in hospitals, focusing on Region Nord, and examined existing waste-sorting solutions. The project collected both theoretical and practical insights through hospital visits and meetings with sorting staff. Based on the findings, it developed a modular structure (a set of flexible building blocks) that enables managers to tailor solutions for each hospital and department. Using this structure, a catalogue of possible solutions was compiled. Finally, a cost–benefit analysis was carried out to estimate the potential monthly financial gain for Hjørring Hospital.
