Abstract

This project develops a cancer care centre in Herlev based on healing architecture—an approach that uses light, nature, and calm, sensory spaces to support wellbeing and recovery. Located in the Hospital Park close to the hospital, the centre combines easy access to care with the park’s recreational qualities. The design emphasizes generous daylight, a close connection to the park’s recreational landscape, and natural materials and textures that invite touch and create a sense of calm. The centre reads as a cluster of small wooden cabins in the woods rather than a conventional institutional building. The transition from hospital to nature is built into the structural system’s tectonics—the way structure and materials are assembled and expressed—to create comfortable spaces and frame a wholesome relationship between people and nature.
