Abstract
This cross-sectional study examined treatment adherence and health-related quality of life in Danish patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) receiving subcutaneous biologic drugs. Patients were recruited from eight rheumatology outpatient clinics, and 128 adults with RA (70.1% women; mean age 56 years) completed a questionnaire comprising the Compliance Questionnaire Rheumatology (CQR) and EuroQol EQ-5D. Adalimumab and etanercept were the most commonly used agents. The mean EQ-5D score was 0.729, and the mean CQR score was 20.8. A weak but statistically significant association was observed between dosing intervals and CQR, whereas no association was found with EQ-5D. In multivariable linear models, higher age was associated with a lower CQR (poorer adherence), female sex with lower EQ-5D, and higher educational level with higher EQ-5D. Overall, quality of life was comparable to other RA studies but lower than in the Danish general population, and CQR scores were lower than reported for methotrexate-treated RA patients, suggesting adherence challenges in this sample. Other unmeasured factors may also have influenced outcomes.
