Abstract

This thesis explores how the Sham Shui Po district in Hong Kong can move beyond its image as a crowded shopping area with small, cramped apartments. We propose connecting its aging building and street patterns, along with its high density, to a broader urban strategy that prioritizes the quality of public space at a human, pedestrian scale. We examine ways to transform the neighborhood’s busy but gray streets into greener, more comfortable places for both residents and visitors.
