Abstract
This thesis explores Denmark’s role in Chile’s emerging green hydrogen industry through the HNH Energy project in Magallanes, Patagonia. Green hydrogen refers to hydrogen produced with renewable energy. The study uses a two-part framework that links Global Production Networks (GPNs)—which examine how firms, the state, and other actors connect across borders to create and capture value—with Sociotechnical Imaginaries (SIs), meaning shared visions of how technology and society should develop. Using this lens, it analyzes how governance, value creation, and competing visions of the green transition interact in the new hydrogen economy. The findings show that the Danish lead actor, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), positioned itself strategically within Chile’s hydrogen industry while shaping dominant narratives about sustainability, industrial upgrading, and future green development.
