Abstract

This thesis examines how and why goal alignment affects the internationalization process of firms, using Eurowind Energy as a single-case study. Taking a pragmatic stance, it employs mixed methods—semi-structured interviews and a questionnaire—followed by thematic analysis in which survey responses guide the grouping of themes. The results are summarized in an emergent framework and discussed against established theories including Schein’s three levels of culture, Goal Setting Theory, and the Resource-Based View. Findings indicate that a high degree of goal alignment can boost employee creativity and drive, provide clearer direction and a shared objective, and thereby increase the likelihood of successful internationalization. Effective vision communication is highlighted as crucial, and organizational culture is identified as a moderating factor shaping the impact of goal alignment on the internationalization process. The thesis assesses Eurowind’s degree of goal alignment and offers a framework to inform practice and future research.
