Abstract
This thesis examines how residents in Ghandruk, Nepal, perceive development through Community Based Tourism (CBT) and how CBT affects them economically, socio-culturally, and environmentally. Situating Ghandruk as an early and prominent example within the Annapurna Conservation Area and ACAP’s initiatives, the study also explores how different stakeholders—central and local government, private operators, and community organizations—understand and shape CBT. Methodologically, it uses a qualitative case study with ethnographic fieldwork in Ghandruk, including participant observation, a focus group, and semi-structured interviews conducted during an extended stay in the village; ethical considerations and trustworthiness criteria (e.g., credibility, transferability, dependability) guided the design. While the excerpt does not include the results, the thesis is structured to present stakeholder perspectives and analyze perceived benefits and costs for locals across economic, social/cultural, and environmental dimensions, followed by discussion and conclusions.
