Abstract

This thesis examines whether it is possible to create background sounds from any given waveform (a basic audio signal shape). To set the context, it surveys ambient music and related genres and outlines key techniques in sound composition and synthesis. Building on this review, it presents three methods for turning arbitrary waveforms into background textures—steady, atmospheric sound layers—and explains how they work. The study reports the results of tests of these methods and offers conclusions about the proposed approaches.
