Abstract
This master’s thesis takes starting point in a Miele competition, where the task is to create a proposal for ‘Future Miele’. The project team has decided to deal with the topic ‘laundry’, which has lead to investigations of today’s laundry behavior as well as the background and history of washing clothes. The project team discovered an increase in cleanness standards and a decrease in the amount of wears before clothes is washed since the automatic machine was available in the early-mid 1900. This leads to worn out clothes and unnecessary frequent laundry activities. Therefore, the solution, 1st Choice, helps the user recycle the clothes and cleans it by using liquid CO2 technology, which doesn’t wear and tear the clothes. It might not clean bad stains, which is one of the reasons why it shouldn’t replace the washing machine.
