Abstract
Denne afhandling undersøger, hvordan et spils grafiske stil kan påvirke spilleres fortsættelseslyst, samt hvordan denne lyst kan måles under selve spillet. Arbejdet bygger på en litteraturgennemgang af fortsættelseslyst og relaterede oplevelser som engagement, flow og indlevelse samt en analyse af fortællingens rolle. Derudover gennemgås spilæstetik, hukommelsesteori, grafiske stilarter, atmosfære og farver for at informere designet af et medieteknologisk produkt. På baggrund af denne teori udvikles og implementeres en in‑game målemetode i en spilprototype og evalueres med tyve deltagere. Resultaterne viser, at deltagernes fortsættelseslyst steg gennem oplevelsen, hvilket peger på, at grafisk stil kan påvirke lysten til at fortsætte. Undersøgelsen fandt derimod ikke evidens for, at effekten afhænger af den enkelte spillers visuelle stilpræferencer, og der peges på behov for yderligere forskning.
This thesis investigates how a game's graphical style may influence players' desire to continue and how that desire can be measured during gameplay. The work is grounded in a review of continuation desire and related experiences such as engagement, flow, and immersion, alongside an examination of narrative influences. It further analyzes game aesthetics, memory theory, graphical styles, atmosphere, and color to inform the design of a media technological product. Based on this foundation, an in‑game evaluation method was developed, embedded in a game prototype, and tested with twenty participants. Findings show that participants’ desire to continue increased over the course of the experience, suggesting that graphical style can affect the wish to keep playing. The study did not find evidence that the effect depends on individual visual style preferences, indicating a need for further research.
