Abstract

The expansion of the video game industry has led to an increase in cheating, particularly in online multiplayer games. This thesis examines the evolution of video game cheating and the development of anti-cheat technologies. It provides a comprehensive overview of various cheating methods, such as aimbots, wallhacks, and automated scripts, and explores the countermeasures implemented by game developers. Anti-cheat systems are analyzed for their methodologies and effectiveness with focus on Ricochet and the corresponding game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, through developing a cheat for the game. Additionally, the study delves into the motivations and ethical considerations of cheaters, offering insights into their behavior through surveys the developed game cheat. The report aims to enhance understanding of the cheat development lifecycle through practical experiences, thereby contributing to the ongoing battle against cheating in the gaming industry.
