Foresight-Driven Service Design: Empowering Event Businesses with Proactive Resilience Towards Futures

Abstract

This thesis explores how strategic foresight can support service design processes to create strategic, future-ready services and strengthen organizational resilience. Using a Research through Design approach and the Resilience Analysis Grid, the authors conducted a case study in the event sector in collaboration with Ticketbutler, applying a range of strategic foresight tools to augment a traditional service design process. The work led to a regenerative service concept that addresses Ticketbutler’s vision and customers’ emerging needs around waste management. Building on these insights, the thesis proposes a framework for foresight-driven service design that embeds long-term thinking, enabling organizations to anticipate change and turn it into business opportunities. The study indicates that integrating strategic foresight into service design equips organizations with processes that foster long-term thinking, improve the ability to anticipate and respond to long-term adversity, and thereby cultivate strategic resilience as a distinct form of organizational resilience.

Dette speciale undersøger, hvordan strategisk fremsyn kan understøtte servicedesignprocesser med henblik på at udvikle strategiske, fremtidsparate tjenester og styrke organisatorisk robusthed. Med udgangspunkt i en Research through Design-tilgang og brug af Resilience Analysis Grid gennemføres et casestudie i eventbranchen i samarbejde med Ticketbutler. Her anvendes forskellige strategiske fremsynsværktøjer for at udvide en traditionel servicedesignproces. Casen resulterer i et regenerativt servicekoncept, der adresserer Ticketbutlers vision og kundernes fremtidige behov for affaldshåndtering. På baggrund af dette arbejde foreslås en ramme for fremsynsdrevet servicedesign, der integrerer langsigtet tænkning og hjælper organisationer med at forudse forandringer og omsætte dem til forretningsmuligheder. Resultaterne peger på, at integrationen af strategisk fremsyn i servicedesign kan udstyre organisationer med processer, der fremmer langsigtet tænkning, øger evnen til at forudse og reagere på langsigtede udfordringer og dermed opbygger strategisk robusthed som en særskilt dimension af organisatorisk robusthed.
