Abstract

Fordi frygt, kriminalitet og frygt for kriminalitet præger hverdagen for mennesker over hele verden.

Why focus on fear in public spaces? Because fear, crime, and fear of crime shape everyday life around the world. Using a critical, pragmatic approach that links theory with practice, this thesis examines how the design and planning of physical space influence human behavior and feelings of safety. It offers an exploratory discussion of how spatial planning can operate as a form of social control and how design strategies can help address crime and the fear of crime.
